Abuja , Nigeria
Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has appointed a 43-member ad hoc committee, chaired by Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, to conduct a comprehensive review of the 1999 Constitution.
The committee comprises representatives from all 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, and members from each of the six geopolitical zones. Akpabio announced that the committee will be inaugurated next Tuesday and instructed that all proposed amendments to the constitution be submitted to the committee for consideration.
Truth Live News gathered that the move shows the Senate’s commitment to addressing constitutional matters and ensuring broader representation in the review process.
The review of the 1999 constitution has been a debate tossed and turned for decades with different views by different segments of the country. While this news gives hope to some citizens for a better Nigeria, some say it is just a rhetoric that will be done by the same political elites for their benefit and will change nothing for the masses
