Asaba, Delta State

Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have agreed to hold the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on March 13, 2025. The decision was reached during a crucial PDP Governors Forum meeting in Asaba, Delta State, where the party’s leadership and direction were discussed amid ongoing internal challenges.

Truth Live News gathered that the meeting was attended by Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and hosted by Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. Also present were Forum Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Vice Chairman, Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), and Governors of Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Osun, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and Plateau states. Oyo State was represented by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, while Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP gubernatorial candidate for Edo 2024, was also in attendance.

The decision to hold the NEC meeting in March is expected to be a defining moment for the party, as PDP navigates internal rifts, leadership realignments, and preparations for upcoming elections. The meeting comes at a time when party stakeholders are debating the future of the acting national chairman, Damagum, and the party’s stance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With growing concerns over party cohesion and leadership struggles, the March 13 NEC meeting could determine whether Damagum retains his position or if the party moves towards a substantive leadership change. It also signals a period of intense political maneuvering as PDP leaders position themselves for influence ahead of future elections.

The outcome of the meeting could also have a significant impact on PDP’s electoral strategy, alliances, and internal stability, particularly in light of the 2024 Edo gubernatorial election and broader opposition politics against the ruling APC.

As PDP grapples with these challenges, the March 13 meeting is set to be a crucial moment for determining the party’s direction in the coming years.

Observers and party loyalists are watching closely, as the PDP’s ability to unite and present a formidable front will determine its viability as a strong opposition force. The decisions taken at the NEC meeting could either reinforce party unity or deepen existing cracks.

For now, all eyes remain on Asaba as PDP leaders strategize their next moves in a political landscape filled with uncertainty.
