On Thursday, the police successfully rescued Segun Akinyemi, an Abuja resident, from kidnappers during a fierce gun battle. The incident unfolded as Akinyemi was being transported from Abuja to Kano State.
Truth Live News reports that the Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, ASP Mansir Hassan, disclosed that on January 18, 2024, the Kawo Divisional Headquarters received a distress call reporting a kidnapping incident originating from Abuja. Operatives swiftly responded, learning that the kidnappers and their victim were passing through Kaduna.
“At about 0010 hours, operatives intercepted a grey Toyota Hilux van, suspected to be transporting the kidnappers and their victim,” stated Hassan. The ensuing confrontation saw one kidnapper, identified as 28-year-old Chinaza Philip of Life Camp Abuja, arrested, while three others managed to escape.
During the operation, the police seized the victim’s vehicle along with two Retay G17 model pistols, one Beretta pistol, ten 9mm P.A.K ammunitions, and five 9mm special ammunitions. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Akinyemi had been abducted from his home in FCDA quarters Area 3 Garki, Abuja, on January 17, 2024.
CP A.D Ali, Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State, lauded the operatives for their bravery and urged them to continue their efforts against criminal elements in the state. Ali also emphasized the importance of the public utilizing security agencies’ hotlines for prompt responses to distress calls.
