Lagos, Nigeria

In a shocking turn of events, all police escorts assigned to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, as well as those stationed at the Assembly complex, have been withdrawn with immediate effect.

This development has raised serious concerns over the security of both the Speaker and the legislative institution.

Truth Live News gathered that, while confirming the situation, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Mr. Victor Ganzallo, described the withdrawal as abrupt and troubling.

“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” Ganzallo stated.

“He further warned that without security, the Speaker is now “vulnerable and open to attack.”

The reasons behind this sudden withdrawal remain unclear, as neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the state government has released an official statement on the development.

The unexpected move has fueled speculation about internal tensions within the Assembly and potential political undercurrents at play.

This action follows the recent leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, where Meranda has faced mounting pressure amid power struggles and shifting alliances.

It also comes just days after reports of heavy security deployment around the Assembly complex, which some interpreted as an attempt to prevent a leadership tussle from escalating.

Observers are now questioning whether this move is part of a broader power play within the state’s political landscape.

The withdrawal of security from a sitting Speaker is highly unusual and could signal deeper rifts within the ruling party or governance structure in Lagos.

Furthermore, given Nigeria’s security challenges, removing police protection from a high-ranking public official raises concerns about her safety.

Stakeholders, including political allies and security experts, are calling for urgent intervention to restore protection for the Speaker and ensure that democratic institutions are not undermined by political maneuvering.

As the situation unfolds, Lagosians and political watchers alike will be keenly awaiting an official explanation from law enforcement agencies and the state government on the rationale behind this development.
