In a significant turn of events, the Court of Appeal, Yola Division, has rendered the election victory of Senator Ishaku Abbo, who represents the Adamawa Northern Senatorial District, null and void. This ruling came to light on Monday, delivering a significant blow to Abbo’s political career.
Furthermore, the Court of Appeal has issued an order instructing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revoke the Certificate of Return that was initially issued to Senator Abbo and, instead, issue one to Reverend Amos Yohanna Kumai, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Abbo’s political journey has been marked by controversy, notably due to his involvement in a widely reported sex toy assault incident. In this election, he engaged in a hard-fought battle against his closest rival, Reverend Yohanna Amos, who represented the PDP.
The election results reveal that Senator Ishaku Abbo, known by the nickname SIA, secured 71,927 votes. In contrast, Reverend Amos garnered 61,895 votes, indicating a relatively close contest. The outcome was a surprising twist considering the circumstances surrounding Senator Abbo’s controversial actions.
It is important to note that Senator Abbo, who is 47 years old, still retains the option to appeal this decision to the Supreme Court. Such a move could potentially lead to further legal proceedings, prolonging the uncertainty surrounding the representation of the Adamawa Northern Senatorial District.
