Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure have been attacked by daredevil highway robbers along Benin-Akure road on their way to honour this weekend league match against Bendel Insurance of Benin.
The injured players have been rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where the Edo State Football Association Chairman Mr. Fred Newton has gone to visit the team.
Speaking to Truth Live News in a telephone conversation at the UBTH emergency unit, Mr Newton was grateful to God that no life was lost.
He said: “Yes, I can confirm that the team coming to play a league match with Bendel insurance this weekend in Benin, Sunshine FC of Akure was attacked this evening but we thank God that no life was lost”.
The players and other officials of the team are in shock, but they are responding to treatment, according to the Edo FA Chairman.
