Damaturu, Yobe
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni’s convoy on the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, resulting in the death of two policemen and injuries to two others. The incident occurred between Mainok and Benishekh in Kaga LGA. The attack unfolded on Saturday after the governor attended the University of Maiduguri’s 24th convocation in Borno State.
An eyewitness, speaking anonymously to Truth Live News, revealed that the assailants fired upon the convoy from both sides of the highway, specifically targeting the pilot. The ambush took place less than sixty kilometers from Damaturu, between Benishekh and Mainok, following the convocation event.
The convoy narrowly escaped tragedy, with one policeman killed instantly and another succumbing to fatal injuries later due to excessive bleeding from bullet wounds. The governor, however, was not present during the attack as he had already traveled to Abuja for an official function.
This marks the first assault on Governor Buni’s convoy in the 12 years since the onset of the Boko Haram insurgency. The perpetrators remain unidentified, and further details on the ambush are yet to be disclosed.
