A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has tasked security agencies to bring the killer of the chairman of Irewole local government, Remi Abass, to book.
In a statement made available to Journalists in Osogbo, Oyebamiji vowed that the murder of Abass will be prosecuted with all strengths.
Recall that the former council boss of Irewole, Remi Abass was killed at Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
He was killed while trying to carry out his reinstating order having been reinstated by the Court of Appeal.
He vowed that the APC will press on and will not back down until justice is obtained for the late Abass who was killed while attempting to resume as a reinstated chairman of the council.
“This is a period of immense pain and agony for me, the progressive family and the good people of Irewole.
“The democratically elected Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area; Hon. Remi Abass was murdered in the course of seeking justice for his people and his beloved local government council.
“This is depressing and irreplaceable. As a people of faith, we hope for divine strength at this time with a firm resolve to seek justice for the fallen hero regardless of the cost.
“We are aware of the antecedent of our political opponents and detractors. Their signatures are all over the crime scene. It has become their pattern to deploy violence and intimidation as tools for political dominance.
“However, the latest gruesome murder of Hon. Remi will be prosecuted with all the strength and resources it requires.
“Our gaze is fixated on justice, and justice we shall get. As a political family, we demand that the security agencies do everything possible to bring the killers of Hon Remi Abass, and other members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) killed across Osun to book swiftly.
“To the immediate family of Hon. Abass, his friends and members of the APC in Irewole and Osun, this loss hits differently. It is one death that must not be in vain. Consequently, we must maintain our gaze and grip on the main issue.
“A judgement was delivered by the Court of Appeal on the 10th of February, 2025 nullifying the unjust removal of Hon. Abass and others from their rightful positions. That judgement was what Hon. Abass held in his hands until he was hacked to death.
“As we mourn our friends and associates who were killed in the struggle for justice, let us remain vigilant and ensure that we conduct ourselves within the ambit of the law.
“Our party is a party of peace and brave minds. We shall press on and will not back down until justice is obtained regardless of the negative tactics of the people whose only negotiating tool is violence”, Oyebamiji said.
