The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Chinese national, Liu Beixiang, before Justice Ayokule Faji of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on a one-count charge of providing false information to an officer.
The charge alleges that Liu Beixiang gave false information to an EFCC officer in December 2024, within the court’s jurisdiction, violating Section 16(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.
Liu Beixiang pleaded not guilty to the offense.
The prosecution counsel, Babatunde Sonoiki, requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility.
However, the defense counsel, F.A. Dalmeda, informed the court of a pending plea bargain application submitted to the EFCC and a motion for bail, which the EFCC responded to on the same day.
Justice Faji adjourned the matter to June 23, 2025, for a report on the plea bargain and remanded the defendant in a correctional center.
