Climate Change Convention: Minister of State Environment Demands Stakeholders Participation

As a Special Guest of Honour at the C’River preCOP28 event slated for November 15th and 16th, 2023, the Minister of State Environment Dr. Kunle Salako, has encouraged active participation of all stakeholders in the environment sector.

The C’River preCOP28 Stakeholders Workshop on Decarbonization & Biodiversity for Niger Delta Region, is in preparation for Nigeria at UNFCCC COP28.

Dr.Salako in a letter said that the Ministry encourages active participation of all stakeholders in the environment sector as they collectively work towards achieving Nigeria’s Climate Action Plan.

He said his Ministry welcomes the organization of this workshop as it contributes to Nigeria’s preparation for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP28.

“I look forward to participating in this event as the Special Guest of Honour, as the preCOP28 stakeholders workshop will present developed bankable projects ready for implementation,” said Dr Salako.

According to him, “the projects will focus on energy transition and decarbonization, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage CCUS.”

“Additionally, the workshop will discuss project development in renewable energy, wind and solar, bioenergy, infrastructure development for decarbonizing the transport sector,” he said.

Other areas of focus for implementation, Salako said will include Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and nature-based solutions.

The event which is scheduled to hold at the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC) in Calabar, has its goal to deliver a carbon-neutral, climate-resilient environment that will contribute to the long-term social and economic growth of the state and region.

The environment stakeholders workshop is in partnership with Stratus Consult Limited and the Federal Ministry of Environment and a private sector representative to the NDC Partnership.

The letter made it clear that they support the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through an in-country driven approach for collective impact on Climate Change and Development Action Plan for the implementation of Green infrastructure Projects in Nigeria.
