Commonwealth Games: Female Weightlifter Adijat Olarinoye Wins Nigeria’s First Gold Medal

Weightlifter Adijat Adenike Olarinoye has won Nigeria’s first gold medal in the women 55kg weightlifting of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Olarinoye lifted a total of 203kg to emerge winner of gold in this year’s event.

She lifted 92kg in snatch, 111kg in clean and jerk making it a total of 203kg

Following closely is the India lifter, Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaniban who clinched the silver medal and England lifter, Fraer Morrow who received the bronze medal.

Following Olarinoye’s victory, there has been massive jubilation among the Nigerians as many still hoped that more Nigerian athletes will win gold medals for the country in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Born 14 July 1999, Olarinloye hails from Southwest region of Nigeria.

Truthlive.net recalls that 22-year-old Olarinoye had won three medals for Nigeria in the 2019 African Games which took place in Morocco.

The Nigerian weightlifter also won gold medal in the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation, World Championship which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
