Court Sentences Thief Who Escaped Police Custody, Sold Handcuffs To Baban Bola

An Area court sitting in Adamawa State has sentenced a thief who escaped police custody and dashed handcuffs to his friend who proceeded to selling them to scavengers (Baban Bola)

The suspect was arrested after a complaint of theft was made to the police, he was said to have connived with other criminals to steal three Turkeys on the 22nd of September.

The criminal was rearrested after he escaped custody by jumping through the fence of the police outpost at Sangere on the outskirt of Yola where he had been detained and dashed the handcuff to his friend who sold the gears to metal scavengers.

The Upper Area Court 4 presided over by Ibrahim Musa Ulenda convicted the suspect on charges of theft and escape from lawful custody.

The court sentenced the defendant to one year term for escaping from lawful custody and another three years for theft with the option of N10,000 and N50,000 fine respectively. The judge also ordered the convict to pay N7,000 compensation.
