Crisis in Edo: Okpebholo’s Authority Challenged as Oshiomhole, Tenebe Take Control

A fresh controversy has erupted in Edo State following indications that Senator Monday Okpebholo has lost control of his administration to former governor Adams Oshiomhole and Edo APC chairman, Jarret Tenebe. The claims, made by Crusoe Osagie, a former media adviser to ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki, have sparked intense debate within political circles and Edo citizens.

Osagie, in a strongly worded statement, cited a letter from the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), dated January 29, 2025, as evidence of Okpebholo’s diminishing influence. The letter, signed by MDCAN chairman Dr. Clement Ikponmwen and secretary Dr. Osaronse Anthony, expressed frustration over the governor’s inability to enforce his directive appointing Dr. Christopher Eigbe Ehiagwina as Executive Secretary of the Edo Hospital Management Agency. The group announced a two-day warning strike in response, accusing unnamed forces of blocking the governor’s decision.

Despite a rebuttal from a writer identified as Alari-Enoma Edosa, Osagie insists that Okpebholo’s authority is being undermined by Oshiomhole and Tenebe. He argues that the delay in executing the governor’s directives indicates that others are in control of the APC-led government in Edo. Meanwhile, APC insiders have reportedly confirmed that Okpebholo’s position remains weak. The unfolding situation raises fresh concerns over the internal power dynamics shaping Edo State’s political landscape.
