The Lions Clubs International Leo District 404A2 Nigeria has inducted the deputy governor of Cross River State Rt. Hon Peter Odey.
The induction which took place Wednesday shortly after he Commissioned the proposed Accident Emergency Centre constructed by the Lions Clubs International at Akim Akim in Odukpani LGA south south Nigeria, is to address accident emergency cases on the Calabar- Ikom highway.
Odey who represented the Governor Sen Bassey Edet Otu, said the initiative was very laudable, and that even if it is only one life that this facility is going to save it will be enough.
While explaining that because we are approaching Christmas period where we all know that road accident is bound to happen, the Deputy Gov. Odey assured the club of government support in the areas of security and provision of Ambulance among others.
His words, “I want to assure you that the request that you have made would be made possible and the government of Cross River State is going to support this project.”
He directed the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) CMD Prof Ikpeme, to use University of Calabar Teaching Hospital to provide the Manpower that would be needed in the facility.
“We are going to provide the light and the ambulance that would be needed, while the Commissioner of police is going to provide men that is going to guide this place and to make sure that this facility is saved,” Odey promised.
“While the government is assuring you that all that you requested will be made possible, the deputy governor reiterated “I want to thank the community for donating this land and God is going to bless you all.”
“And so as a government we assure you and we are giving our commitment that we are going to support the Lions club in Nigeria.”
The President of Leo District 404A2 Nigeria 2022/2023 Service year Leo Esther Ededem Esua, said the edifice seeks to address accident emergency cases on the Calabar- Ikom highway experiece by the road commuters.
She went ahead to explain that the building is for first aid resuscitation for accident emergency cases and has two Wards, the males and female Wards saying that each of the wards is a three beds capacity space.
“They also have doctor offices and the convenience,” Leo Esua stated “We also intend to provide other medical services Including anti-natal Care and family medicine because there is no health facilities within the environ.”
On her request she said, “What we are asking the government to support the facility for proper functioning is the provision of an Ambulance and power, a renewable source.”
Expressing joy for having the number two man in the state as its member, The Leo President said “It is a thing of joy to have the deputy governor inducted into the largest organization around the world, and the most interesting thing is that it happens at our event as Leo district.”
According to her, “this service year we are launching campaign of 1.5 million members, we are currently 1.4 million and we are excited that we have additional quality member for Lions Clubs International in the personality of the deputy governor of Cross River State.”
She said they trust his humanitarian’s ability and that with him more services will be extended to the indigents communities in the state and across the globe.
The building was Inaugurated and handed over to Dr (Mrs) Affiong Oku, Head of Department Community Medicine and Public Health University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for Odukpani Qua Clan.
