CALABAR: The Cross River State government has announced that gratuity shall be paid in a chronological order of the date of retirement with the most dated retirees taking precedence and others following sequentially.
It said a schedule of payment will be published before the end of this week.
Permanent Secretary and Secretary of committee Orok Bassey Okon announced this in a release dated July 29, 2024.
The full statement which he posted on social media said thus:
“Sequel to the constitution of a committee to supervise the payment of gratuity of the retirees in the State Civil/Public Service, the inaugural meeting of the committee held today 29th July 2024, in the office of the secretary to the state government.”
“The public particularly retirees of the Cross River State Civil/Public Service are to note that gratuities shall be paid in a chronological order of date of retirement with the most dated retirees taking precedence and others following sequentially.”
Therefore, “a schedule of payment will be published before the end of this week,” he assured.
Consequently, “no retiree shall pay any sum of money to any person or office for the purpose of facilitation of gratuity payment.”
Moreso, on a date to be announced shortly, verification of retirees shall hold in Local Government Headquarters and subtreasuries, to be facilitated by a team of diverse composition including representatives of the Nigerian Union of pensioners, organized labour, permanent Secretaries and directors.”
Meanwhile, “in respect of deceased retirees, their respective legal representatives, executors and administrators are to attend their verification exercise with original letters of probate/administration.”
