Two weeks after a conflagration burnt a family of four including a pregnant woman, the Cross River State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs Dr Helen Egodo, has visited the victims in the Hospital.
The incident which took place on the 23rd of August at 3:05 a.m in Calabar was as result of cooking gas leakages from a cylinder.
The victims made up of a 29-Year- old man, his 3months pregnant wife, his 12-year-old cousin and his 1-year-old daughter.
Arriving at Peace Medical Center, No 17 Efut Street, Calabar, the commissioner engaged with the Chief Medical Officer (CMD) of the Health Facility over the victims admission bills.
In addition, Dr Egodo conveyed deep concern and sympathy to the victims and made a significant cash donation to cater for the procurement of relevant pharmaceutical products to enhance their treatment.
The CMD- Dr Edet Attih, Former Commissioner for Health, Akwa Ibom State to revealed that The victims victims need maximum support and care considering the cost implications of their treatment/ burns management and the trauma inflicted on them.
He pledged to collaborate with the State government and relevant agencies to ensure that further assistance and aid are extended to the victims.
While Family members and friends of the victims who were at the Clinic as the time of the visit expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Commissioner for her kind gesture and keen interest in the welfare of Cross Riverians.
He said the presence of the commissioner and her team was an indication that the government empathizes with them in their predicament.
