The Deputy Governor of Cross River State Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has said that while his doors will remain open, he will not hesitate to embark on quarterly inspection of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Centres to see the ones they have done and the ones they need to do.

Odey made the promise when the Directors of Primary Health Care (PHC) across the 18 LGAs of the State visited him in Calabar.

“I assured you that quarterly inspections would be carried out to revitalize the sector, especially regarding the improvement of working conditions and making provisions for imprest,” Hon.Odey said.

He said the issues mentioned by the directors will receive the Governor’s speedy attention as soon as the document is received.

The PHC Director for Yala Local Government, Dr. Mrs. Augustina Okem, said their visit was to dialogue with the deputy governor over some of the challenges facing them in the ministry.

Dr. Okem listed the challenges of PHC to include staff shortage, old broken down vehicles, dilapidated buildings and inadequate funding among others.

She thanked the Deputy Governor for the role he played to ensure that PHC get support and counterpart funding for their programmes.

“I am satisfied for the warm reception accorded us by the deputy governor,” Mrs Anthonia Owan, the PHC Director of Ikom LGA said.

She expressed optimism that she believes God will use him to relieve some of the tension they have been passing through in the ministry.
