CROSS RIVER, CALABAR — The Cross River State Government has called on Christians to reflect deeply on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as they celebrate Easter, while also urging residents to maintain peace and avoid actions that could disrupt public order.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang, congratulated Christians in Cross River and around the world on the successful completion of the Lenten season and the celebration of Easter.
“The government heartily felicitates all Christians on the 2025 Holy Week festivities, which mark the end of the Lenten season — a period defined by prayers, fasting, abstinence, love, sacrifice, and dedication to God and humanity,” Ekpang said.
He encouraged Christians to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly His passion and death, which he described as a divine act for the remission of sin and salvation of mankind.

“Let Christ’s exemplary lifestyle be completely imbued in us,” he stated, “so we can emulate the love Jesus shared for our sake.”
The government also issued a warning to residents to refrain from any disruptive behavior during the Easter period.
“We urge everyone to avoid overstepping the bounds by engaging in untoward behavior that could threaten the peace, serenity, and tranquility of our dear state,” Ekpang emphasized.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to security and development, the statement highlighted Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s “People First” agenda, with a continued focus on improving tourism and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
“The administration remains committed to sustaining gains in tourism and creating a secure environment for residents and businesses alike,” Ekpang added.
The statement concluded with a message of goodwill: “Happy Easter celebrations!”
