Cuba revealed late Saturday, through a state-run media broadcast, that it successfully intervened in a terrorist scheme, purportedly concocted in neighboring south Florida.

The reported incident involves an individual who allegedly arrived on the island via jetski with intentions to carry out violent acts.

The ongoing investigation, as outlined by state-run media, suggested connections of the plot to at least two entities: Nueva Nacion Cubana and La Nueva Nacion Cubana en Armas, entities designated as terrorist groups by Cuba.

According to the report, one of the individuals arrested, whose identity remained unclear despite a televised appearance, was found in possession of multiple handguns, ammunition clips, and ammunition.

The report narrated that the detained individual, identified as a Cuban resident in Florida, illegally entered Cuba on a jetski bearing Florida registration. Subsequently, the jetski was abandoned in a mangrove swamp along the island’s north coast, followed by the individual making his way overland to Cienfuegos in south-central Cuba.

Allegedly, this person sought others to join in acts of violence, arson, and vandalism before being apprehended, as per the report. State media also mentioned that several Cubans, residing in both South Florida and Cuba, were under scrutiny for their purported roles in the suspected plot.

These disclosures surfaced just two days following Cuba’s release of a list encompassing more than 80 foreign nationals and entities accused of involvement in terrorism. This list included influencers, long-term dissidents residing in the United States, and even a Miami-Dade County mayoral candidate.

The two groups spotlighted in the Saturday TV report had also been identified earlier by Cuba, labeled as “criminal organizations based in the United States that organize, finance, and execute actions against the security of the Cuban state.”
