Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has recently expressed his support for the Tinubu administration, marking a shift in his earlier stance.
Truth Live News gathered that while speaking on the removal of fuel subsidy, Dogara clarified that while the current President made a pronouncement on the issue, the subsidy had already been removed before his tenure. He acknowledged that the challenges facing the nation predate the current government, but expressed optimism that President Tinubu is ready to address these issues, citing a recent visit to the president as evidence of his commitment to improving the situation for the masses.
Dogara emphasized that despite his past apprehension toward the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, his current focus is on solutions for the country. He previously voiced concerns over the Muslim-Muslim ticket, framing it as a matter of justice, fairness, and inclusivity for Nigeria’s diverse population.
However, he now seems to have reconciled his views, stating that the president is taking full responsibility for the country’s problems and is committed to resolving them.
He said “Fuel subsidy was removed before this sitting President came in. He only made a pronouncement to that effect, but he was not the one that removed it. However, as a member of 9th Assembly then, the person who removed it didn’t make provisions for it in the budget. What am saying is subject to public scrutiny and whoever alleges has the burden of prove.
I’m not here to speak for anyone or on issues that I wouldn’t want to comment further.
The recent visit to the president shows that, he’s ready to adjust certain challenges confronting the masses in the Nation. It mind you, these are problems that have been there, even before he came on board.
Though he admits to everything and takes full responsibility as a leader. For everything there’s a gestation period and we hope to see that things takes shape within a stipulated time.”
Dogara’s shift signals his support for President Tinubu, while also reinforcing his longstanding belief in the importance of inclusivity and national unity.
