London Metropolitan police in the UK say that it arrested a 71 year old man at the London Heathrow Airport on charges of rape committed in 2019 on Sunday.

The details of the London police report originally made available to the BBC though omitted naming the suspect, but the report shared similarities with the alleged report of arrest of Dr Raymond Dokpesi, founder, DAAR Communication on same day.

Dokpesi is believed to be in London to meet up with People’s Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

According to eye witness reports sourced by Truth Live News, disembarkation from the plane was halted at the Heathrow by the airport.

The online news platform also gathered that Metropolitan police could choose not to mention names of suspects still under investigation.

“On Sunday, 8 January, we arrested one 71-year-old man at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of rape.

“The arrest is related to an allegation made in August 2019,” said the report made available to BBC Pidgin.

The police, however, said that the arrested 71 year old man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

According to the UK law on rape cases, as published by Local Solicitor Magazine, an offence of rape carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Although the maximum sentence is life imprisonment, the average sentence that is issued to those found guilty of rape is currently 8 years.
