ECOWAS Asserts Unyielding Stance Against Undemocratic Government

Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria and Chairman of ECOWAS, has conveyed a resolute message on behalf of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS member nations. He firmly stated that any form of undemocratic government within West Africa will not be accepted.

In his personally signed message issued on Wednesday, President Tinubu addressed concerning reports of an attempted destabilization of Niger Republic’s elected government, expressing that such actions would not be tolerated by ECOWAS.

The ECOWAS Chairman made it clear that all stakeholders in Niger Republic should understand that both the leadership of ECOWAS and democracy advocates worldwide will stand against any situation that disrupts the functioning of the democratically-elected government in the country.

President Tinubu further emphasized that ECOWAS is closely monitoring the developments in Niger Republic and is committed to ensuring the success of democracy not only in that country but also across the entire West African region.

He assured that consultations with other regional leaders are ongoing, and every effort will be made to uphold and promote democracy in line with the principles of constitutionalism.

Concluding his statement, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support for the elected government of Niger Republic and stressed the collective determination of regional leaders to defend and preserve constitutional order.
