Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State, concluded his U.S. engagement tour with the Edo Diaspora Community in New York, promising a revitalized and more robust economy for the state.
Addressing attendees on the final day of his three-city Town Hall Meeting on Friday, Ighodalo expressed his commitment to reshaping the state’s economy if elected, alongside his running mate, Osarodion Ogie Esq. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the expertise of Edo indigenes in the diaspora to drive this economic transformation, as outlined in his “The Pathway to Prosperity for All” manifesto.
During the event, which saw over 300 participants, Ighodalo, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo and his running mate, highlighted the state’s rich mineral resources, pledging to harness them for the state’s benefit. He assured the audience that with the right leadership, Edo State could lead an economic revolution that would set a benchmark for neighboring states.
Ighodalo underscored the need for enhanced security to safeguard farmlands, thereby curbing food inflation, and reiterated his plans to turn Edo into a logistics hub through the development of industrial parks to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). On security, he emphasized the integration of modern technology and strengthened laws to tackle crime effectively. He also vowed to bring out-of-school children back to classrooms and enhance educational facilities to build on the successes of the EdoBEST initiative.
The Town Hall Meeting, which began with a festive reception, concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, where both candidates addressed queries from attendees, receiving applause for their comprehensive responses.
