Edo North’s APC stalwarts are voicing growing frustration over the floundering campaign of their candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. The rumblings of discontent center around Okpebholo’s underwhelming performance, marked by embarrassing gaffes and his notorious aversion to public debates.
Truth Live News gathered from Facebook that Critics are baffled that a man who mistook a museum for a zoo could represent a constituency that once produced two esteemed professors as governors.
Chief Victor Ohainmo minced no words: *“It’s insulting that from a zone with such pedigree, this is what we’re left with. If zoning was scrapped, someone like Clem Agba would’ve put the APC in a fierce race with the PDP by now.”* His comments followed a Facebook post where he bluntly declared: *“Zoning breeds mediocrity. Hon. Dennis Idahosa would’ve made all the difference.”*
Ohainmo isn’t alone in his dismay. Chief Victor Bonneh echoed these sentiments, arguing that the zoning arrangement has backfired: *“I don’t believe this zoning fits the bill. We’ve ended up with a candidate who clearly isn’t the best the party could’ve produced from that zone.”* Bonneh suggested that the likes of Arch Mike Onolememen, a former Minister of Works and Housing under the Jonathan administration, would have been far more credible.
As the APC gubernatorial campaign crumbles under internal dissent, the party’s chieftains have grown increasingly vocal, branding Okpebholo’s candidacy as a betrayal of the region’s potential. Many are openly lamenting the missed opportunity to field stronger, more grounded candidates who could have provided a real challenge. Now, what was once seen as a promising campaign is spiraling into a tale of distrust, disillusionment, and mediocrity—a warning that when poor choices are made, they haunt even the proudest constituencies.
