In a campaign marked by energy and enthusiasm, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took its message of progress and continuity to Owan West and Afuze in Owan East, showcasing Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the beacon of hope for Edo State’s future. The campaign rally, held on Saturday, was a resounding demonstration of the PDP’s stronghold in the region, as the people rallied behind Ighodalo with optimism for the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s governorship candidate, captivated the crowd with his vision for Owan West. Addressing the sea of supporters, Ighodalo promised to usher in a new era of development, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure. “We will do more than what has been done. Companies will come to Owan to process your products, and we will ensure Cocoa’s glorious days return,” Ighodalo declared, his words met with cheers from the enthusiastic audience.
Truth Live News gathered that the atmosphere was electrified as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku, reinforced the PDP’s dominance in Owan West. “Owan West is solidly for the PDP,” Agbebaku proclaimed, rallying the people to support Ighodalo and the party’s vision for sustained progress in the state. Agbebaku’s confidence was echoed by Deputy Governor, Engr Godwin Omobayo, who assured that Governor Obaseki’s legacy would be secure under Ighodalo’s leadership. “The governor loves Edo North, and the people will reward that love in the upcoming election,” Omobayo stated, emphasizing the strong connection between the administration and the people of Edo North.
As the campaign train moved to Afuze in Owan East, the momentum only grew stronger. The rally at the Afuze Township Stadium was nothing short of a carnival, with the PDP’s message resonating with a jubilant crowd. The excitement reached new heights when Monday Afreagbe, a youth leader from the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the PDP along with 200 others. Their defection was a significant boost to the PDP’s campaign, symbolizing a growing tide of support for Ighodalo’s candidacy.
In his address to the people of Afuze, Ighodalo promised to restore the area’s status as a hub of sporting activities, while also committing to more roads, better security, and the establishment of agro-allied industries. “Reject darkness and continue with the light as represented by the PDP,” Ighodalo urged the crowd, his message resonating with the community’s desire for continued development and prosperity.
Governor Obaseki, in his address, expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from the people of Owan West and Afuze. He reaffirmed his belief in the PDP’s team, highlighting Ighodalo as the leader who will carry forward the torch of progress in Edo State. “We have a solid team that means well for Edo State. They will continue from where I will stop. This man, Asue Ighodalo, is a good man. He is coming to serve Edo State, not for himself, but for the people,” Obaseki declared, cementing Ighodalo’s position as the candidate of choice for a prosperous Edo.
As the campaign continues, the support for Asue Ighodalo is gaining momentum, with his vision for a better Edo drawing people from across the state to rally behind the PDP. With each passing day, Ighodalo’s campaign is building towards what could be a defining moment for Edo State’s future.
