With the September 21 Edo State governorship election approaching, the Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) has denounced the apparent collusion between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigeria Police Force, expressing full support for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s refusal to sign the Peace Accord.
In a statement released on Thursday in Benin City, signed by Erhabor Emokpae, TAMO insisted that Governor Obaseki was justified in rejecting the call to sign the Peace Accord, arguing that the Police have failed to demonstrate neutrality, and instead have become “a willing tool in the hands of the APC, arresting and harassing PDP members while ignoring the criminal actions of APC thugs.”
The statement read: “TAMO stands firmly with Governor Godwin Obaseki in rejecting any attempt to sign a peace accord that is nothing but a smokescreen for the APC’s blatant manipulation of the electoral process. The Nigeria Police Force has shown itself as a willing tool of the APC, arresting and harassing PDP members while ignoring the criminal acts of APC operatives. We will not be deceived by this sham accord. It is meaningless when the Police and federal agencies are being used to intimidate, oppress, and undermine our democratic process. Dr. Asue Ighodalo will not participate in a peace charade that aims to silence the opposition while the APC, with the support of compromised security forces, disrupts the democratic process.”
TAMO further emphasized: “We are prepared for peace, but not at the cost of our right to a fair election. The people of Edo State will resist any APC-backed police intimidation, and we demand an immediate stop to unlawful arrests and the release of all detained PDP members. The international community must take note of the growing impunity and the complicity of federal institutions in the APC’s desperate agenda. We will not relent in our pursuit of a free, fair, and transparent election. Enough is enough!”
