In the lead-up to the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, Senator Ehigie Uzamere has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to uphold democratic principles by not interfering in the electoral process.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with Truth Live News at his Benin residence, Uzamere emphasized the importance of allowing Edo voters to freely choose their next governor.

Reflecting on past administrations, Senator Uzamere lauded former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari for setting a precedent of non-interference in off-season elections.

“Jonathan allowed free and fair elections in Edo when the opposition held the state, instructing service chiefs and INEC to act impartially. Buhari did the same during his tenure, ensuring the integrity of off-season elections across several states,” Uzamere recalled.

He appealed to President Tinubu, a leader known for championing democracy, to follow the same path.

“Tinubu understands the pains of Nigerians. Our appeal is for him to let INEC and security agencies play by the rules and ensure that the election is free and fair. He must remain a true democrat and allow the will of the people to prevail,” Uzamere stated.
