Benin City, Edo State
The Edo State Government has clarified that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) did not withdraw the license of the Edo Broadcasting Service Television (EBS TV).
In a statement a statement made available to Truthlive news, Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, dismissed rumors of the station losing its license due to statutory failures, calling the claims misleading.
Osagie explained that EBS TV, previously broadcasting on Channel 55, operates within the 700MHz frequency band, which the Federal Government is repurposing in line with a 2015 international treaty from the International Telecommunications Union. He emphasized that the NBC has reassigned EBS TV to Channel 45, and that plans are underway for compensation by the NBC.
He also highlighted that the station had accumulated significant debt over a decade before Governor Godwin Obaseki took office. In June 2022, the governor approved and began clearing this debt, ensuring EBS’s compliance with regulatory requirements.
Osagie urged the public to disregard any false information regarding the station’s license status, stating: “The National Broadcasting Commission did not withdraw the license for Edo Broadcasting Television (EBS TV) over any statutory failures.”
