The chairman, Electoral Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Edo State, Mr. Bassy Otu has ordered a fresh election to be held today, February 22, 2024.
Otu who is also the governor of Cross River State disclosed this after a meeting with party stakeholders on Thursday at Lushville hotel in Benin City.
The National Working Committee of the party had said: “the Edo State governorship primary election has not been completed, and has fixed Thursday, February 22, 2024, for the completion of the primary election process.”
The decision followed the party’s controversial primary election held on February 17, during which three aspirants, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Hon.Dennis Idahosa and Hon. Anamero Dekeri laid claim to victory.
Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the electoral Committee in the February 17, primary had declared Hon. Dennis Idahosa winner of the exercise.
However, the party’s returning officer for the election, Dr. Stanley Ugboaja declared Senator Monday Okpebholo as the APC candidate for the September governorship election.
Also Hon. Anamero Dekeri emerged winner of the primary in the result declared by local governments returning officers for the election.
