Lucky Obukohwo ReportingÂ
The former Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Adjoto Kabiro, has said that the people of Edo North are strictly against the move of the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu to flex muscle with his boss, the governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki due to his boss refusal to yield to his quest to run for the governorship position in the forthcoming election in the state.
Adjoto also said that the crisis that tore the former governor of the state and now Edo North senator, Adams Oshiomhole and the governor of the state, Mr.Godwin Obaseki was mastermind by the same Philip.
Adjoto who spoke for the leadership from the six local government areas of Edo North, said they are surprised and embarrassed by the behaviour of the current deputy governor, Shaibu in his ill-advised mission to govern the state by all means.
While blaming the deputy governor further, the former Speaker said the state governor, Godwin Obaseki has been most magnanimous more than any governors in Nigeria and has saddled their son, the deputy governor with the highest number of responsibilities ranging from sport, internal revenue, boundary committee, immunisation to mention but a few which have earned him the name “the most busy deputy governor in Nigeria”.
He said it is unheard of in the history of Nigeria where a sitting deputy governor will initiate a court action against his governor without any justification as in the instant case and also going ahead to engage social media miscreants to disparage his governor.
Also speaking, former deputy chief of staff to the Edo State deputy governor, Jimoh Ijegbai, said that they are coming out to disassociate the Afemai people from this ill conceived action and to also apologize to the governor of the state for this unfortunate incident.
He said they are firm believers in the federal character moreso when another of their illustrious son from the same Etsako extraction has just been nominated as a minister.
Ijegbai said that the people of Edo North stand for equity, fairness and justice and they are grateful to other senatorial districts particularly the majority tribe, Edo South for allowing them to produce the governor from 2008 to 2016 adding that they will not abuse the privilege.
The former chief of staff to the deputy governor maintained that the people of Edo North are solidly behind the governor and urged him not to be distracted by the current rat race of succession which to us is premature, individualistic and diversionary just as they urged the governor to remain focused and finish well and strong.
