In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing security measures across Edo State, Governor Obaseki has officially launched the Command and Control Center alongside an emergency contact number.

The initiative stems from the government’s detailed analysis of crime incidents spanning from 2017 to 2020, revealing a notable 47.7% reduction in crime rates—a testament to the commendable efforts of the state’s security agencies, as acknowledged by the governor.

Expressing his pride in the security reforms implemented under his administration, Governor Obaseki emphasized the ongoing need for further improvements in safeguarding the state.

He entrusted a significant portion of the state’s security framework to traditional rulers, recognizing their unique understanding of local environments and urging them to promptly alert security agencies in case of any perceived threats or suspicious activities.

Highlighting the strides in community security, the governor revealed that 5,000 vigilantes have already undergone training, with an additional 1,000 individuals currently undergoing extensive security training.

These initiatives aim to empower and equip community members with the necessary skills to safeguard the lives and properties of the people of Edo.

In his address, retired Major General Ohifeme Enemia commended Governor Obaseki for convening the security summit and inaugurating the Command and Control Center.

He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in ensuring the safety and security of the populace. Major General Enemia stressed that effective security transcends merely bearing arms but resides in cultivating a secure state of mind.
