The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has approved the payment of gratuity to local government pensioners who retired in 2011.
This decision comes as part of the state’s efforts to address outstanding pension obligations.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government, Community, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo, the governor instructed the State Pension Bureau to begin the screening and immediate payment of the gratuities to the eligible pensioners.
This follows a similar move in August 2024, when Governor Obaseki approved the payment of gratuity for pensioners who retired in 2010.
“This is to inform the general public, especially Local Government Pensioners, that His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has approved the payment of gratuity to pensioners who retired in 2011,” said Osaigbovo.
The commissioner further emphasized that both the Pension Bureau and the 2011 retirees should take note of this directive as the process for payment commences.
