In a show of defiance against what they describe as intimidation tactics, a group of Edo women gathered in Benin City to voice their rejection of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The women, who are mostly mothers, expressed outrage over the harassment and arrest of their children by the police, which they claim is an attempt to coerce them into supporting the APC in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21st.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the women, clad mostly in wrappers and holding placards with inscriptions, are seen laying curses on the police and members of the APC who have triggered tension in Edo. The women chanted slogans and displayed messages rejecting the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo. They insisted that no amount of intimidation would sway their votes or change their decision to oppose the party in the forthcoming election.
The protest has sparked reactions from various political observers and members of the community, raising concerns about the escalating tension in the run-up to the election. The APC is yet to officially respond to the allegations or address the concerns raised by the women.
