The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, has agreed to sign the peace accord once all the party’s conditions are met. Currently, only one condition remains outstanding.

Ighodalo expressed concerns about PDP members being arrested and detained without trial, emphasizing the need for their release or proper trial.

“We had a number of conditions, most of which have now been met with one left. Many of our supporters have been held unjustly. We think if you hold someone, you either charge them or let them go on bail. Once that is achieved, we will sign the peace accord,” Ighodalo said.

He acknowledged the Inspector General of Police’s assurance of neutrality, stating, “Today, we feel a bit better… The Inspector General has given us his assurance and word as a man of great honor that we will have a level playing field.”

Ighodalo reaffirmed his commitment to nonviolence, emphasizing it won’t change soon. The PDP was the only party not to sign the peace accord initially, citing police allegations.

The Peace Committee, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, confirmed Governor Obaseki’s concerns about police actions. PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi had stormed out of the peace pact venue, protesting Collins Aigbogu’s arrest.
