The Edo State Government has told the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu to forget the idea of socialising or fraternising with the state Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki since he decided to take his boss to court over an unsubstantiated rumour.
This was contained in a statement made my the State Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Mr. Chris Nehikhare while chatting with News men in Benin city.
Truth Live News can recall that the embattled Deputy Governor has been having difficulties trying to have audience with his boss the governor since his arrival from the United States last week where he had his vacation.
Regarding the unusual fencing of the deputy governor from the governor and the gap between the two, the state commissioner for communication, Chris Nehikhare said:
“The security man as you know was doing his job. I can assure you that His Excellency, Governor Obaseki was probably not aware of what was going on at that point in time because I personally didn’t see it. I saw the deputy governor approach and I saw him go back.
“Most of us in government were not even aware that the deputy governor was in town. He had been on holiday for the past three to four weeks
“I don’t know why he stopped him, the security man is the one that can tell you why he stopped the deputy governor from approaching the governor,” Nehikhare said
On why Obaseki Cannot Dine With Shaibu, Nehikhare said:
“He is the one who has gone to court to restrain the government from impeaching him. We did not have such plans. In Edo State, indeed, in Nigeria when you take a man to court you can no longer dine with him. We have to be realistic.
“But if the case is out of court and settle out of court we can now have dinner together because it is something that led to this: He took the government to court to try to stop an impeachment that was not even planned and you now trying to play the victim by disrupting government events.”
Besides the assertion that Obaseki cannot dine with Shaibu on account of the court case, Nehikhare also accused the deputy governor of orchestrating the walk out of the colloquim on the Midwest referendum.
“The deputy governor we all know wants to be governor. But you do not bring the house down to feed your ego and that’s what has happened. We organized a beautiful programme for all Nigerians, for the whole world to see, but he deliberately planned this. The day before he appeared in church without anybody knowing that he was in town.”
