The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in its ongoing investigation into the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and the former CEO of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.
According to Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of EFCC, the agency has recovered an impressive sum of N30 billion for the Federal Government thus far.
Olukoyede emphasized the gravity of the case, urging Nigerians to exercise patience as the investigations unfold. He reiterated that due process, guided by laws and regulations, is being meticulously followed in the probe. The suspension of the implicated individuals, he noted, was a result of the findings gleaned from EFCC’s investigations.
In a statement, Olukoyede asserted, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proved to Nigerians that he is ready to fight corruption.” He emphasized the complexity of the investigation, highlighting that it commenced less than six weeks ago and involves multiple facets that require thorough scrutiny.
The EFCC chairman disclosed that over 50 bank accounts are under investigation, a testament to the extensive nature of the probe. He underscored the magnitude of this task, noting the substantial amount of resources and manpower it necessitates. Despite the challenges, Olukoyede assured the public that EFCC’s professionals are diligently handling the case, ensuring every lead is thoroughly pursued.
Olukoyede urged Nigerians to acknowledge the tangible impact of EFCC’s efforts, evident through the suspensions imposed and the substantial recoveries made. He assured the public that the agency is actively exploring various discoveries unearthed during the investigation.
