A security delegation from Egypt has traveled to Qatar for negotiations on releasing hostages, admitting aid into the Gaza enclave, and advancing a second phase of the ceasefire.

Recall Egypt’s visit comes after proposing a new plan on Monday to restore the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The Egyptian proposal aims to restart the ceasefire deal, which was disrupted when Israel resumed air and ground operations against Hamas militants on March 18.

This escalation ended a two-month period of relative calm in the region.

According to the Egyptian plan, Hamas would release five Israeli hostages weekly, and Israel would implement the second phase of the ceasefire after the first week.

However, both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of breaching the truce.

The ceasefire talks, which began in January, have provided temporary relief for Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants, who have suffered greatly due to the war-torn region.

Israel has expressed willingness to temporarily extend the ceasefire if Hamas releases more hostages, but a permanent end to the war remains uncertain.
