Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, has stated that raw election results will not be transmitted electronically during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Presiding Officers will be required to use the BVAS machine to capture election results on results sheets from each polling unit and upload them to the INEC Result Viewing Portal for Nigerians to view, according to Yakubu.
The INEC boss stated during a meeting with leaders of International Election Observers at the Commission’s headquarters that the decision not to transmit raw figures electronically was made to avoid hacking because raw figures are more vulnerable to hacking.
He also told international observers that the decision not to transmit raw figures is the main difference between the Kenyan experience and what the commission is doing.
