Enangahe Qua Clan Gains Autonomy, Hosts Grand Opening Ceremony In CalabarĀ

CALABAR, NIGERIA – In a landmark cultural and political development, the Enangahe Qua Clan was officially inaugurated on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Calabar Municipality.

The newly gazetted clan, composed of seven historically significant villages, now stands as a recognized autonomous entity within the Qua nation.

The ceremony was led by His Royal Majesty Ndidem Dr. Eta Bassey Eteta, Ndidem of the Quas and Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, who was represented by His Royal Highness Ntoe Patrick Agbor Edem, Ntoe of Kasuk 1 Qua Clan.

The inauguration drew Atoe from various Qua Clans, prominent members of the Osam Mgbe and Efe Ekpe societies of the Efut and Efik kingdoms, and several government dignitaries.

 

Cultural Recognition and Leadership

 

The Enangahe Clan comprises the following villages: Etab Nneta, Etab Ohen, Etab Inok Nikae, Odoso Otu Ekom, Odoso Esebe, Etab Iso Odo, and Etab Omin Iso. With its formal recognition, the clan affirms its place in Qua traditional governance and cultural preservation.

Speaking during the event, Ntoe Michael Ekpenyong Iso, Ntoe-elect of Enangahe Qua Clan, described the inauguration as ā€œa long-awaited day of pride, unity, and ancestral vindication.ā€ He added, ā€œWe are grateful to our leaders and ancestors. This recognition calls us to serve our people with wisdom.ā€

A Symbol of Unity and Strategic Relevance

 

HRH Ntoe Patrick Agbor Edem congratulated the clan on behalf of the Ndidem, stating, ā€œThis day marks the beginning of a new era for Enangahe. The responsibility is now yours to protect your identity and contribute meaningfully to the Qua nation.ā€

Ntufam Promiz Edim, a community leader and journalist who has closely followed developments within Qua traditional institutions, emphasized the significance of the inauguration.

ā€œThis is more than a ceremonial event; it is a geopolitical shift that gives Enangahe a defined voice in cultural and administrative matters within the municipality,ā€ he noted.

 

Geographical Importance

 

The Enangahe Clan occupies a vast and strategic portion of Calabar Municipality, covering key installations including the Calabar International Convention Centre (CICC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Export Processing Zone (EPZ), Customs, NTA, NYSC Secondary School, and the Parliamentary Extension (Jonathan Boulevard), among others.

 

The inauguration was both a celebration of history and a projection of the future, marked by traditional rites, unity dances, and goodwill messages from various stakeholders.
