Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup following a penalty shootout loss to 10-player England, Truth Live News reports.

After an intense goalless 120 minutes, England emerged victorious 4-2 to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

This marks England’s second World Cup win against the Falcons, with their previous victory occurring during the 1995 edition in Sweden.

During the match, England’s star player, Lauren James, was sent off in the 87th minute for a stamping incident on Michelle Alozie.

The game saw several close moments, including a penalty decision overturned after VAR review and shots hitting the woodwork from both teams.

In the shootout, England triumphed after missing their first attempt, while Nigeria struggled to convert their chances.

Now, England advanced to face the winner of the Colombia vs. Jamaica match in the quarter-finals.
