The bridge connecting the New Artisan flyover and the NNPC Mega Station along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway has collapsed.
The bridge, which is situated at Naira Triangle and Goshen Flyover, at New Artisan Market, in Enugu state capital, collapsed on Monday morning.
At the time of the collapse, a fully-loaded truck and an unidentified lorry were on the bridge.
Fortunately, there were no casualties because heavy traffic was minimal due to Monday sit-at-home order in the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Works, Engr. Gerald Otiji, confirmed the incident in a statement and urged the public to use alternative routes.
He stated, “The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure wishes to inform the general public about the bridge collapse that occurred on September 25, 2023, along Kilometer One of the Enugu Port Harcourt Expressway, specifically between Naira Triangle and Goshen Flyover.
“Road users are advised to detour through Nza via New Haven or Ogui Road to reach their destinations while repair measures are being planned for the affected section.”
