Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace thanks to a penalty kick from Noni Madueke one minute into extra time.
In the closing moments of the game, Chelsea applied further pressure. Dynamic substitute Madueke was hauled down by Eberechi Eze, and although the referee originally missed the penalty, VAR forced him to look at the video screen and he pointed to the spot.
Mykhailo Mudryk scored a side-footed goal after Malo Gusto retreated from the by-line, rewarding the Blues for having the better of the first half.
Halftime saw Palace draw even thanks to a goal from star player Michael Olise, who first stopped Jordan Ayew’s cross with his chest before crashing in low inside the near post on a half-volley.
The Blues’ late-game substitutes gave them momentum, and after Nicolas Jackson wasted a clear opportunity and had a goal disallowed by VAR, the hosts won their third straight Premier League home game and their 12th overall versus the Eagles thanks to the late penalty kick.
Palace is currently three points above the relegation zone in 15th place, while Chelsea has risen to 10th place.
