‘Development Comes With Implications’ – C’River Gov. Tells Commuters

Cross River State Governor Sen Bassey Edet Otu, has warned commuters about the danger of plying newly constructed evacuation road.

The Governor spoke during the commissioning of a 20 kilometers new evacuation road, constructed by Lafarge Africa PLC.

Otu, on Thursday, stated that development comes with implications.

For instance, he said “when you have a road, the good people will use it and the bad people will also try to use it.”

He recalled that the construction of that road started in 2010, spans from Mfamosing, community through Abiati, Etamkpini and terminated at Odukpani junction.

While commissioning the road, Otu prayed that road users including customers and truck drivers would be safe while plying the road.

Moreover, he added, “I want to give you every assurance that the security agencies we have here are up and doing.”

Nevertheless, “I am not sure you will have issues on this road, particularly now that the security of the area has been highlighted.”

The Governor said that he will give everybody assurance both the customers and the trucks plying the road would be safe.

“For Cross River government, I want to give you every assurance that we will continue to give you the enablement,” he said.

The Governor promised Lafarge strength, proper enabling environment to expand and succeed.

In addition, Otu commended Lafarge Africa PLC for taking trucks and traffic out of the town.

Truth Live News learned that he urged other Corporate bodies to emulate the cement company.

“It would have been difficult to have about 200 trucks passing through the town, driving out, amid stress and accident,” said the Governor.

He said, that what they have done has taken the whole traffic completely out of town and straight to the road.

“I commend you and wish that other Corporate bodies would emulate Lafarge Africa PLC,” the governor concluded.

Meanwhile, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge, Alade Akinyemi, observed the road would improve safety, enhance productivity and drive economic growth.

“The new evacuation road started in 2010, but it later faced suspension due to critical inadequacies in geotechnical studies and design,” he explained.

On the other hand, Community leaders and traditional Chiefs thanked government and the company for the economy implications of the road to the people and the adjoining communities.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Comrade Nsa Gill reported the paramount ruler of Odukpani LGA, His Royal Highness Etinyin Otu Asuquo Otu Mesembe VI attended the Commissioning.
