Inside sources within Sen Lee Maeba’s camp have claimed that there may be more to the recent attack on the former senator than what he is telling Nigerians, insisting that Rivers State Government’s call for a thorough investigation on the matter is the way to go.
Truth Live News exclusively gathered that insiders within the senator’s camp are already uneasy over the claim by Maeba on the attack, stating that what happened was “a poorly executed ruse to implicate Governor Nyisom Wike”.
Gunmen on Thursday morning attacked the residence of Maeba, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State.
Maeba, a former senator, in his statement had subtly hinted that the attack was from the governor’s camp.
Reacting to the Maeba’s comment suggesting that his attackers were sent by the Rivers State Government, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chris Finebone, in a statement said Maeba should help security agencies in unraveling the purported attack on his house and those behind it.
But the online newspaper gathered from insisted sources within Maeba’s camp that the attack may never have come from Wike or the state government.
“I can assure you that there is a great deal of anxiety within Maeba camp at the moment because Wike already has the state on lockdown, politically,” explained a PDP member within the Senator’s camp, who asked not to be mentioned by name.
The source claimed that he was in a meeting where he overheard the former senator plotting with some “guys” to help stage manage an attack on him, knowing fully well that holding campaign rallies in the state for the PDP candidate without the support of the state govt would be an uphill task to achieve and having boosted to the Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar that he would secure and win the state for him, Maebe is not alleged to be seeking for ways to divert the conversation from those promises he made to Atiku and gets everyone focused on this attacks and alleged attempts on his life.
“He is also trying to paint Gov Wike in a bad light as a violent man and create some level of sympathy for himself from Nigerians and the Presidential candidate”, our source emphasized.
When the newspaper correspondent reminded him of the issue of an earlier alarm raised by Lee Maeba of an attempt on his life, the source said that “all that early alarm was made to set the stage and create an alibi” for this alleged attack which was referred to during his interview on Thursday.
The source further explained that Maeba’s endgame is to secure sympathy and resources from Atiku who has been at loggerheads with the Rivers State governor.
The Rivers State Government has asked security agencies to unravel what really happened in the reported attack on Senator Lee Maeba.
The state government also said some politicians are staging high-level melodrama to cover up tracks.
