Eyewitness Narrates How Businesswoman Escapes Death as Estranged Husband Allegedly Sets Apartment Ablaze in Edo

Ismail Abdulazeez Mantu Reporting

An arson attack marked the dawn of the New Year in Idumwonwina community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, Edo State, when a 54-year-old Italy-based Nigerian businesswoman, Tina Uyi, narrowly escaped death after her estranged husband, Osaro Ahunwan, allegedly set her apartment on fire.

An eyewitness, Mr. Abel, recounted the harrowing incident in an exclusive interview with Truth Live News at the scene of the fire.

“Shortly after shouting ‘Happy New Year’ with my friends around 1:00 a.m., I was about to enter my residence when I saw a wild fire coming from a neighboring apartment,” Mr. Abel narrated.

“I rushed to the scene and found Osaro lying on the floor. People nearby confirmed that he had set the apartment ablaze.”

When asked why he committed the act, Osaro reportedly said, “Since you know about my marriage in this compound, you should understand I wouldn’t burn the apartment without reason.”

Efforts to contact the fire service were futile as the blaze had already caused significant damage before their arrival.

According to a family member who spoke with Truth Live News off the record, the tragic incident stemmed from a bitter marital dispute. Tina had allegedly returned the bride price to end the marriage, but Osaro vehemently refused to accept the separation.

The fire, which engulfed most of Tina’s belongings, has left the community in shock. Authorities are reportedly investigating the incident while Tina remains in hiding, fearing for her safety.
