Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has strongly slammed the Nigerian Senate for blocking an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Ezekwesili described the lawmakers as “nation-destroyers” who behave with impunity.
Ezekwesili’s statement comes after The Economist reported on the harsh conditions Nigerian women face in politics, with a highlight on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations against Akpabio.
The former minister accused the Senate of bringing shame to Nigeria by refusing to investigate the allegations and instead launching a smear campaign against Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Truth Live News recalls that the Senate’s actions have sparked controversy, with some defending the suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan for not appearing before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
Others, like Ezekwesili, argued that the Senate’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for justice and accountability.
