Lucky Obukohwo Reporting
In order to put the party on solid ground and recover its lost glory, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has charged its seven-member Peace and Reconciliation Committee with resolving all intra-party conflicts resulting from the general elections of 2023.
This was said in a statement that was provided to Benin news outlets and signed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Mabel Akomu Oboh, on behalf of the party’s national secretary, Said Baba Abdullahi.
According to Abdullahi, the Peace and Reconciliation committee is asked to pursue reconciliation immediately in order to restore the party’s lustre and find a solution for all leading presidential hopefuls and other contenders who feel betrayed by the standoff.
He stated that in addition to their duties, they must bring back all well-intentioned members and take all other required actions to convert the ADC back into a respected political force in Nigeria and throughout the African continent.
According to Abdullahi, despite the fact that many political parties in Nigeria experience internal strife, the ADC’s disputes could have been avoided if not for the lack of discipline displayed by some of its members, candidates, and aspirants on the one hand, and the absence of a suitable screening template on the other.
The National Secretary continued, saying that deliberate propaganda and misinformation were also to blame for another component.
He stated that the Appraisal team had noted that the party had been infiltrated by ominously planted fifth columnists within ADC who were actually agents of destabilisation from other parties.
The crises and the antics of some fifth columnists, he claimed, were largely to blame for ADC’s underwhelming performance and inability to reach its goals, according to the ADC 2023 Performance Appraisal and General Election Review Committee.
He claimed that the Appraisal assessment found that more than 90% of the perpetrators of the entire scandal were candidates and party newcomers who joined during the election year and had fewer than six months of membership.
He added that the committee report had highlighted that ADC places a two-year cap on any member’s eligibility to run for office or join the executive at both the state and federal levels.
According to a statement made by the National Publicity Secretary, the ADC approved the recommendation and appointed the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, which includes Hon. Salman Idris (MHR), Mabel Oboh, Chief Mrs. Biola Are, Hon. Hauwa Lawal, and Barr. Emeka Igwe as members. Lady Jumoke Lawoyin will serve as the committee’s chairman, and Dr. Aminu A. Anas will serve as secretary.
Chief Ralphs Nwosu, the National Chairman, praised the Appraisal Team for a job well done and stated that their report will assist the party in separating the excellent advice from the poor nonsense.
He claimed that when the party’s resiliency was put to the test, it displayed exceptional elasticity.
