Federal Ministry of Sports Development Strengthens Grassroots Presence in Southwest

 

In a significant move towards fostering grassroots sports development at the community level nationwide, the Federal Government has underscored the pivotal role of the zonal offices of the Federal Ministry of Sports Development. This affirmation came during the recent visit of the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, to the Southwest Zonal Office situated in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

 

In a press release made available to Truth Live News, Senator Owan Enoh highlighted the strategic importance of the Southwest Zonal Office, covering Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, and Lagos states. This regional hub is positioned to play a crucial role in executing policies and initiatives aimed at activating grassroots sports and fostering comprehensive development.

Emphasizing the significance of these zonal offices, the Minister expressed, “Our efforts in promoting grassroots sports and development are greatly enhanced by focusing on regions. This approach allows us to tailor interventions to address specific needs and harness the untapped potential in these communities.”

The visit is part of a broader strategy to directly engage with local communities, comprehend their unique challenges, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement targeted solutions. Senator Owan Enoh acknowledged the enthusiasm and passion for sports within the Southwest region, reiterating the Ministry’s commitment to creating opportunities for talent development and sports participation at the grassroots level.

In emphasizing the Ministry’s dedication under his leadership, Senator Owan Enoh highlighted its readiness to collaborate with individuals and corporate organizations in the pursuit of national development goals.

During the visit, the Minister conducted an inspection of the Obafemi Awolowo National Stadium in Ibadan, led by the zonal coordinator, Mr. Okere Emmanuel. Senator Owan Enoh stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts, emphasizing the integral role sports play in unifying communities and fostering a culture of excellence.
