The federal government has announced the finalization of discussions with investors from the Kingdom of Netherlands for a grant of €25 million.

This funding will be allocated towards the construction of priority bridges in Nigeria, addressing crucial infrastructure needs.

David Umahi, Minister of Works, Speaking after the meeting with the investors, emphasized the government’s commitment to innovative problem-solving approaches.

In a statement by Uchenna Orji, the minister’s spokesperson, Umahi highlighted the importance of seeking international interventions to address Nigeria’s infrastructure deficits, which have been a barrier to economic growth.

He further underscored the significance of partnerships and collaborations in supporting the funding of critical sectors of the economy, facilitating robust and equitable economic development and assured the investors that the proposal would undergo due diligence and be presented to President Bola Tinubu for approval.

“We have a number of projects that we can do together. But I think the best thing to do is to conclude this one, which is a grant, then get the process started,” he said.

“And at the point of agreement and project selection, we shall refer to Mr. President for his approval.”

Speaking further, Oluremi Oliyide, Nigerian ambassador to the Netherlands, revealed that Janson Bridging International had offered the €25 million grant for investment in road infrastructure in Nigeria. Oliyide pledged support to expedite the company’s implementation process once all legal requirements are met.

Eric Okunde, an international business consultant representing the investors, expressed readiness to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Works on project design, mapping, and implementation. The investors are prepared to contribute their technical expertise to ensure the success of the bridge construction project.
