The federal government has said that it will demolish the Hangar belonging to the General Overseer of Living Faith Church, Bishop Oyedepo at Lagos Airport.
Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika who made the revelation during his visit to Lagos this weekend to commission the new fire fighting vehicles explained that the demolition is meant to give room for the expansion of the terminal Apron.
Also to be demolished is the Evergreen Apple, owned by Dr Harold Demuren, the former Director General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority a report by daily times said.
Sirika who emphasized that nothing can stop the development disclosed that it would be done in few weeks.
Truth Live News reports that Hangars are used for protection from the weather, direct sunlight and for maintenance, repair, manufacture, assembly and storage of aircraft.
His words: “We are not operating Lagos airport at full capacity. We have some obstructions that will be removed within the next one or two weeks to expand the Apron so that Lagos will have full use 100%.
“Those two hangars I talked about , Dominion and Evergreen will have to go and give way for our airport to be more efficient. It is a $300million investment over there and they can’t sit there in public interest. We have to shift them, I don’t know them, of course I know Demuren, my leader but I don’t know the other guy, it has to go. You can’t deny Lagos and the country in general from using the airports.”the minister maintained.
The Minister during the Stakeholders Forum two week earlier had also mentioned his intention to demolish the regional headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and the Nigeria Civil Ation Authority (NCAA) to make room for an Aeropolis. The unions claim that this was never part of the plan for Lagos Airport.
